We are part of Open Heaven because of God’s grace towards us and want to be a community characterised by grace towards each other. The 5 letters in the word ‘grace’ help to describe some further characteristics and values of Open Heaven.

We are committed to:

Growth

We are a growing church and aim to glorify God by seeing people regularly coming to know him. This means we grow the numbers of 21^st century disciples who are both part of and have been sent from Open Heaven. We are also committed to growth in spiritual maturity and growth in the numbers of leaders trained and released to serve.

Relevance

We are a 21^st century, contemporary church to our culture and generation. We began as a church particularly relevant to student culture and have since broadened out to connect with the 18s-30s generation. As the numbers of parents and children increase we will also explore what a relevant church expression looks like for this life stage. Our commitment to cultural relevance determines the venue, timing and content of Sunday gatherings and a commitment to the values of being accessible, creative and informal.

Authenticity

Our spirituality is characterised by a genuine, passionate and deep devotion to Christ. Discipleship ensures the activity of our daily lives are consistent with our beliefs and the values of heaven are open for people to see and experience. We want to be known as his disciples with lives characterised by a 24-7 commitment to Him in all we do.

Community

Church is people, not buildings or meetings. We are committed to sharing our lives together in friendships characterised by openness, honesty and accountability. We express our community through belonging to a Cluster - a small group of people who know us, care for us and walk the journey of life with us. Community life is also cultivated by joining together at Sunday gatherings, opening our homes for hospitality and lots of parties!
