Living Beyond Myself

The great gamble

We were made in the image of a gambling God.  He gambled on making a people of his own who would know him and love him.  It was a risky decision!  And we also are invited to gamble.  It’s the great gamble…of our lives.  We can choose to give our lives to many things.  We can invest our time and energy and effort in a myriad of different dreams.  Jesus invites us to gamble on God’s dream.

God’s dream of people after his own heart.  People who are made to serve and lay down their lives.  People who will pick up the towel and give themselves in simple acts of kindness and service to others.  People who will emulate Jesus – the servant king.

In the month of January we will be looking at the theme of living beyond myself.  What it means to “do as I have done” and “wash one another’s feet”a.  We will be exploring our call to serve and our gifts and where they fit in God’s kingdom.  It will be a journey that challenges all of us to rise above our own wants and desires and to live beyond ourselves.
