Ali's Story
I haven’t been a Christian for long and I’ve only just set out along the path to God, but so far the journeys been very exciting and eventful.
Coming from a typical Church of England background with two devout parents, I went to church every Sunday as I grew up, but as I became a teenager I thought it didn’t mean anything to me. I didn’t respond well to the whole traditional church environment; the message went in one ear and out the other.

I grew up, came to Uni and got into the typical student lifestyle – I thought I was satisfied with that. However, earlier this year I met a few students that had found God (my next door neighbour Tarun came to faith in the first term), I saw the affect it had on them, and I started to wonder if there was more to life. I started going to the Alpha course and just wanted to find out more; it was great to talk to other people my own age about Christianity and answer a lot of questions. The Holy Spirit Day also proved a bit of a turning point when I had the first opportunity to really pray with others and try and get in touch with God.
I was then invited to Open Heaven just before Easter, and the people I met there were such an inspiration; I realised what an awesome affect God had on their lives. Going back home, I talked a lot with my dad, got involved with the church there, and it just made me even more eager to take a big step forward. Taking the Foundation Course with Ness and Lucy has given me a strong basis for understanding the word of God, and how it is essential in growing in my faith. Though I couldn’t attend all of the sessions, I would recommend it to anyone who is developing in their faith.
