Prayer for Muslims

More and more world news is being dominated by conflict between the west and the Muslim world.  A false picture is often painted of a ‘them and us’ approach, ‘us’ being the good guys and ‘them’ being the Muslims.  Islam is recognised as becoming the greatest single challenge facing Christians today.

Here in Loughborough the Muslim population is increasing.  Many of us living in the town have neighbours who are Muslims, with the areas around Queens Road, Kings Street and the station having particularly high populations. On top of this university also has a growing number of Muslim students, and Loughborough as a town now has the opportunity to welcome an increasing number of Asylum seekers, most of whom are Muslim.

How do we respond?

Above all we must repond through love.  It is important to remember that every Muslim is unique and wonderful in God’s eyes and we should be careful not to generalize or presume that all Muslims are the same. Every Muslim is greatly loved by God. Most Muslims who come to Christ are not won over by intellectual arguments but rather they have personal encounter with Christ, through reading the New Testament, the power of love demonstrated through Christian friends, or through dreams and visions.  We need to pray in faith and confidence that God will hear us and will move powerfully in answer to our prayers of love and compassion towards Muslim people.

Why not join the worldwide 30-day prayer for Muslims?  This starts on the 24th September, coinciding with Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting.  I am getting hold of a number of prayer guides which give information about Muslims around the word and provide an opportunity to lean more about our neighbours.  If you are interested please contact me and I will reserve you a booklet (cost £1.50 each).

As God’s people we can make a difference through prayer.  God has entrusted the nations of the world to His Church.  True peace comes through love; let us demonstrate this love in our prayer lives.
