Hope '08: The bigger picture
You may have heard about or even been at Message 2000 (Manchester) or Soul in the City (London). They were all initiatives that brought local churches together to serve and love their towns and cities hoping to demonstrate the Love of Jesus in words and actions.
Hope '08 is a national initiative that seeks to encourage the whole church to reach the whole nation for a whole year.
At the moment there are churches from all denominations in over 900 different locations that are coming together to work, love and serve the places they live. The potential impact in Loughborough and across the nation is amazing. Andy Hawthorne, one of the Hope 08 founders says “"I honestly believe 'Hope' in 2008 is an opportunity, perhaps like we've never had before, for every denomination, stream, conference and movement to play to their strengths and together to make a huge impact on this nation".
Chair of the Hope ’08 steering team, Paul Stevens said, “Churches in Loughborough have been working closely together for many years to share Jesus’ love with our town, but our hope is that 2008 will mark a gear change in what we do together. There’s already in excess of a hundred activities impacting a significant portion of our town, with everything from toddlers groups to work with the homeless, from seniors to students and much in-between, but our vision for Hope ’08 is to go further than ever before.”
Final plans for Hope ’08 are continuing to evolve, but, amongst others, are set to include special events and initiatives for toddlers, children, young people, students, young families, seniors, business people, forced migrants, late night clubbers and those who are homeless or in financial difficulty.
Over Easter, the townwide church is coming together to create "The bigger picture" - a giant image made up of thousands of indivudal pannels depicting the Easter story. Every Open Heaven cell has been signed up to help paint a pannel, which can be collected this week from St. Peter's church building between 4.00 and 6.00pm. Let's all play our part in sharing the heart of the message behind Hope '08.
