Consultation Update
Over the last few months we’ve had a period of consultation where we’ve wanted to hear ideas and dreams, specific requirements and also concerns and questions people have about St. Peter's. We’re coming to the end of that process now and we wanted to update with some of the outcomes.
I’m aware that there are many different challenges as we move forward with this. One of the things I keep coming back to is that fact that this is not something we’ve gone after it feels like an opportunity that God in his grace has brought to us. It feels like we’re caught up in an exciting adventure with God. If you’ve not heard the background to how we got to this place then do listen to The Story so Far.
Something else I’m aware of and want to touch on is the challenge of expectations. One of the things that has excited and encouraged me in this process is that when we’ve talked about what St. Peter’s could release and help create, we had endless lists of ideas and projects that loved and served the town and beyond. When we talk about investing and sharing a building with Elim, what we’re actually talking about is something that will be impacting, loving and serving the community of Loughborough and beyond. I loved those times where we dreamed about what St. Peter’s could help release and how it could be a source of life, healing, hope and community for many in our town.
I guess the challenge is that not all of the ideas people have shared and contributed will be able to happen in a finite space. This is part of the reality, actually a lot of the ideas that people shared don’t need St Peters, some don’t need a specific buildings, they need a step of faith to go and pioneer, to trust God and live out the dreams God’s put in us.
Understandably there have been many questions, people have asked which have been really helpful as we move forward. If you haven’t read a copy of the FAQ that the Consultation Team produced then please have a read through.
In the coming weeks we’ll be talking with Elim about both of our needs and requirements and finding ways to prefer each other and start designing the layout. In the next month or so, the sale of St. Peter’s will hopefully go through, we should also be hearing back from the planners about some of our ideas we’ve proposed to them.
Gemma is currently writing up the consultation proposal which will be available to see on the members’ Building Info page of the website
We are looking to hold an Extra-ordinary General Meeting in a couple of months where we can update the whole church on the latest developments and talk through where things are going. If you have any questions please do speak to someone on the Leadership Team (preferably not Rich and Ness just at the moment).
