The Passion - New BBC1 Series
This Sunday BBC1 is showing the first in a four part mini-series about the death of Jesus. The Passion
will go out on Sunday, Monday, (Good) Friday and conclude on Easter Sunday on prime time BBC1 so may well prove a bit of a talking point.
Joseph Mawle (Soundproof) will be playing the role of Jesus with support from James Nesbitt (Cold Feet), Ben Davies and Penelope Wilton (Shaun of the Dead). The show also reunites Dennis Lawson (Bleak House) with producer Nigel Stafford-Clarke.
I've had the chance to see the first 90 minutes of the programme (half its 3 hour run time), and all I can say is so far, so good! Joseph Mawle does a great job as Jesus, and the programme gone to real effort to get it's history right, not just in how it looks, but by taking the time to put the story back into its original context.
There's lots more about the film at rejesus.co.uk as well as at the official BBC site for the show. Church groups are hoping the response will be similar to when the BBC first aired Jesus of Nazareth. Then people were so moved by what they had seen they rang the BBC switchboard to find out more. With this being broadcast into so many people's homes it would a good idea to watch if, even if it's so you have something to say when your friends ask about it.
The series will be broadcast as follows:
