Well Done You’ve Made It!
You’ve made it to the end of lent and gone without whatever it was you chose to give up. Thank you for making the sacrifice. It will make a difference to someone you’ve never even met.
The money we raise will go to the Kick for Life Orphans and Vulnerable Children scholarship scheme. The aim of the charity is to educate youth around how to avoid HIV infection and to diminish the stigma and discrimination around HIV/AIDS.
The scheme we are supporting gives selected children a chance to have a secondary education, providing funding for fees, uniforms and books. Through the delivery of other initiatives, K4L is able to identify, select and then regularly monitor each child’s progress throughout their education, supporting them through to employment. Each child is expected to regularly assist as peer leaders with delivery of the K4L Curriculum throughout the duration of their scholarship. In their final year of school each scholar must complete the Kick for Life Fit 4 Work programme which supports the transition to employment or further education with sessions on route planning, CV writing, interview techniques and interpersonal skills.
This is all stuff we take for granted, yet for more than half the worlds population it’s out of reach; one of the main reasons for this being the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Hopefully, Luxuries for Life made you think. Hopefully, it was more than just the small sacrifice of giving up something of your choice for a short time and it reminded you how rich we are in this country and how much we have to give. Let’s not stop here though, God calls us again and again throughout scripture, and in the example of Jesus, to stand up for injustice and do what we can.
Remember to bring the money you saved back to the Sunday gathering this week, or drop it in to the office over the next few weeks. If you are a tax payer please fill in the Gift Aid form.
If you’d like to learn more about injustice and what you can do why not come along to Overflow - see the facebook group or talk to Caroline Harmon or Mel Cave.
