BACA Update

BACA was set up by a group of volunteers from Open Heaven in November 2007 to work with newly arrived Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Children between the ages of 16-18.  Our vision was to invest hope into these young people and shape their futures for the better, teaching them good independent living skills and helping making good choices for their lives.

BACA now operates as a faith-based (but non-proselytising) charity with over fifteen staff, four independent living houses accommodating twelve young lads from countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Eritrea and more recently Vietnam.  BACA also runs a successful schools education project called ‘Passage’ linking learning about asylum with the National Curriculum in day-long experiential workshops. And BACA is on the move again!

Part of our culture at BACA is to keep moving into new arenas, expanding our already wide vision for what God can do through us and with us.  This has created a number of employment opportunities.

We need…

1)    Support Worker (26 hours per week)
This role involves work alongside a number of male asylum seekers.  Applicants will need to understand the issues surrounding good child care practice and be able to demonstrate a holistic approach in their ability to relate to young people.  Previous experience of working with young people is required but training will be provided including assistant with an NVQ2 in care.  The job offers a unique opportunity to gain in depth cross-cultural experience, which might be useful in this country or for those considering work overseas.

2)    Office Administrator (10 hours per week)
Successful applicant will play a pivot role within BACA by providing administrative support for the organisation.  Your role will include dealing with clients, collating information, creating and updating spreadsheets, dealing with correspondence and many other aspects.

3)    Live In Worker
Required from July 1st for a new BACA house.  Not a paid position but rent, utility bills, TV Licence and 50% Council tax will be paid in return for you living in a BACA house living your normal life.  The role dictates that the person is male with a willingness to oversee and befriend the boys in the house.

For further information about the vacancies or to request the application forms please contact Bex or Andrew at The BACA Project, 46 Derby Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 5BX 01509 550438 or email Andrew Reed.
