Film

"...some filmmakers are interested in more than just making money... as genuine artists they invite us to explore the pain and the joy of being human, to look deeply into ethical issues and dilemmas, and at times to enter into worlds far different from our everyday experience…such films help us to understand a little better what it is to be a human being and, in a few cases, even to see a little more clearly the emerging kingdom of God"

                                                            - Edward McNulty, Praying the Movies

God is a communicating God and He speaks in many different ways. It seems almost inevitable then that he will speak through film which combines both the visual and the narrative with accessibility.

Therefore, we want to engage with film and learn to hear God speaking to us through it.

At the moment we run a monthly Film Night where we eat together and then watch the film(s), combining a relaxed environment and community with a chance to watch, reflect learn and discuss. It hopefully makes for an evening that people, both those that currently go to church and those who don’t, can enjoy and be challenged by.

See a list of the films we have recently seen.

"When film does this, when it subverts our absorption in the temporal and reveals the depths of our own reality, it opens us to a fuller sense of ourselves and our world. It is alive as a devotional form"
Nathaniel Dorsky, ‘Devotional Cinema’ in The Hidden God
