Lent2005


Every year the Churches together in Loughborough pool resources to provide a series of talks for lent, focusing on various aspects of Christian life.

Courses are offered on five consecutive Wednesdays, beginning 16th Feb with courses A&B taking place in the mornings from 10:30 'til 12noon at the and courses C-F being in the evenings from 7:30-9:15. All courses are at the Baptist Church, Baxter Gate. Additional courses [G&H] are being run at the United Reformed Church, Frederick Street on Mondays and Fridays during Lent.

These are the courses available for 2005:

Course A : Listening to the Teacher: Devotional readings in the five blocks of teaching in Matthew’s Gospel – set in their context of Church and Mission:
The Law of the Kingdom – chs 5-7:        Ambassadors of the Kingdom – ch 10
Parables of the Kingdom – ch 13 :          Relationships in the Kingdom – ch 18
The coming of the Kingdom – chs 24-25

Course B : Better Together?: A discussion course using input from audio tapes from York Minster featuring the Abbot of Ampleforth, Nicky Gumbrel, John Bell, Jane Williams & Dr David Hope. The topics include, Family Relationships , Church Relationships, Relating to Strangers, Broken Relationships, Our Relationship with God

Course C : Act Justly: Using Christian Aid Material, this course will look at the theological perspectives of the 2005 campaign "Making Poverty History", which concerns issues of Aid, Trade and International Debt.     Leader: Anne Speight
 
Course D : Spirituality and the End of Life: An exploration of the variety of ways in which people of faith approach death and bereavement. The sessions will include input from people of different churches and other faith communities with plenty of opportunity for discussion.     Leader : Stephen Cherry
   
Course E : Mission-Shaped Church: The course will engage with the Church of England report – "Mission-Shaped Church" which looks at fresh expressions of church in a changing context. There will be some fieldwork as we seek to understand mission in today’s world and how to move from a church-shaped mission to a mission-shaped church.     Leaders: David Newman & Chris Hodder

Negotiating the Moral Maze; Homosexuality;

Course G : Jesus in the Movies: Using various portrayals of Jesus to challenge and enrich our understanding of Jesus and his life, as well as exploring what these cinematic versions tell us about how our society views him [Mondays 7:30-9:00 pm @ United Reformed Church, Fredreick Street]:
