Safehaven Cafe

Safehaven Cafe is a 5-week well-being café for parents with young children who need support with their wellness. Our café serves meals, gives families the opportunity to meet others, be heard, and pick up useful skills through interactive sessions. The programme started in 2016 and since then we have run the café with over 50 families, taking referrals from a number of local agencies.

Charnwood Food Poverty Group
Charnwood Food Poverty Group is a multi-agency group representing more than 30 local organisations working together to eradicate food poverty in Charnwood. Our Community Engagement Lead has been chair of the group since 2019. CFPG recently helped launch a social supermarket in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, John Storer Charnwood and The Bridge at John Storer House. “Your Store” will help people currently using food banks become more independent by offering food at discounted prices alongside a personalised support plan, including support across a wide range of areas including mental health, debt advice and budgeting.

Community Cookalong
We run 4-week cooking workshops for the community, delivering a programme that was put together in partnership with Tesco and Jamie Oliver. We want to equip people to plan menus, prepare food and cook meals in a supportive community together. We are partnering with Your Store to help their members with these courses, as well as other local referral partners.

Lost Child Officers
Open Heaven have been providing Lost Child Officers to the Loughborough Fair and Christmas Lights Switch On events for Charnwood Borough Council since 2016. Working in pairs, as part of a large operations team made up from a range of local partners, our team cover 88 hours of volunteer time helping reunite lost children and vulnerable adults with their parents or carers across these two significant local events.

CAP Money Course
The CAP Money Course is a revolutionary money management course that teaches people budgeting skills and a simple, cash-based system that really works. This course will help anyone to get more in control of their finances, so they can save, give and prevent debt. The CAP Money Course is a course devised by the award winning debt counselling charity, Christians Against Poverty. Some Open Heaveners have been trained to be CAP Money Coaches who can deliver courses for people in the local community.
